Entering 2020, the world is fighting the corona virus outbreak. Globally, the virus has infected more than 34,400 people, 724 have died.

The WHO has declared a global public health emergency. Some countries imposed travel restrictions to curb the spread, and also flew their citizens out from Wuhan, which has been on lockdown for weeks.

The outbreak has spread rapidly over the last several weeks. Fears and panic rise, and so the virus of ignorance and racism spreads vastly.

There is so much misleading information, this is more harmful than the corona virus itself.

The fact that the virus emerged in China is incidental. It could have emerged in any other part of the world, just as Ebola started in Congo, and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome MERS in Saudi Arabia.

The fake news and conspiracy theories range from the virus being created as a biological weapon to it being caused by the 5G network.

The misinformation is fuelling ignorance and anti-Chinese racism around the world.

Some money-making plot companies are taking advantage of this tragedy, by misleading their customers that their products are the miracle cures.

Some politicians take advantage of this anxious moment for their political profit.

Social media became the platform of disinformation, by passing on misinformation.
It also damages humanity with racial harassment and hatred.
Social media has lost its social significance. It has become anti-social media.

I read very disheartening and very stigmatizing comments on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter:
that the Chinese deserve this,
that it’s a good thing that Chinese people are infected by this virus and have died from it,
that this is God’s punishment.

Ignorance and intolerance has done its deadly work.
Humanity is sliding down.

What on earth has happened to us?
Have we become so perverted that compassion and empathy is not possible anymore?
What a desperate time we live in.

When I read those comments,
I am struggling with the grace of God for heartless people.
I am struggling to not be impatient and impertinent to horrible people.
I am struggling to not reply hatred with hatred, but with kindness and compassion.
I remember the Bible told me to be in the world, but not to be offered.

A lot of times I remind myself to not judge people on their moral axis, but rather recognizing their core problem, that is their blindness of God’s forgiveness, grace and love for them.

God is a gracious and compassionate God,
He is slow to anger,
He is abounding in love,
He relents from sending calamity upon us.

I have to learn the grace of Christ in my dealings with fellow human beings.

The world may be very dark,
but it’s great for you and I to be alive and to share the message of love and the message of grace to this world we live in.

let’s send prayers and show our sincere sympathy for the Chinese people of Wuhan.
Let’s sound the message of love,
and may God help us change our world.

“Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:29‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:8-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭103:8‬ ‭NLT
